Who Owns Fiji Water?

Fiji Water is owned by Stewart and Lynda Resnick, the American couple behind The Wonderful Company. Unusually for a US-owned brand, they are named personally on the UK register: Companies House records both of them as persons with significant control of Fiji Water (UK) Limited (04378506), each at 75% or more. Who owns the Fiji Water brand?

The UK company is FIJI WATER (UK) LIMITED (04378506), incorporated 21 February 2002 and registered in London, with its recorded activity the production of mineral waters and other bottled waters.

Its two persons with significant control are Stewart Allen Resnick and Lynda Rae Resnick, both resident in the United States, each recorded with ownership of 75% or more of shares and voting rights and the right to appoint or remove directors, notified 6 April 2016.

Two people each recorded at 75% or more does not mean 150%. Where a couple or a family hold shares jointly or through the same trust arrangement, PSC rules require each of them to be recorded as though holding the whole — the same convention that puts nine names on the Weston family’s register elsewhere on this site.

Parent company and ultimate owner

The bottling and the brand belong to The Wonderful Company, the Resnicks’ privately held US group, based in Los Angeles. It is not listed, has no outside shareholders of note, and the Resnicks own it outright — which is why the register can name two individuals directly instead of a chain of holding companies.

That makes Fiji Water one of the simpler answers on this site. There is no fund, no consortium, no layered acquisition vehicle: two named people, on the public record, at the top.

The water itself comes from an artesian aquifer in Viti Levu, Fiji, and is bottled there. The Fijian operating company is registered in Fiji and outside Companies House, so the UK entry covers the British importing and selling business rather than the source.

Brand owner vs operating company

Fiji Water (UK) Limited handles the brand in Britain. The Wonderful Company owns the trade marks and the Fijian bottling operation.

The UK company’s history holds a small curiosity: it was incorporated as PICCADILLY 539 LIMITED and only became Fiji Water (UK) Limited on 3 October 2002. Numbered names like that belong to shelf companies — incorporated in batches by formation agents and sold off ready-made, then renamed by whoever buys one. It is a common pattern on the register and says nothing about the business except that someone wanted a company quickly.

When the ownership changed

Fiji Water was founded in the 1990s by the Canadian businessman David Gilmour, who secured the rights to the aquifer and built the brand around its remoteness. The Resnicks bought it in 2004 through what was then Roll International, later renamed The Wonderful Company.

Ownership has not changed since. The UK register has carried the same two names since PSC recording began in April 2016, with no ceased entries — a rarity among the brands profiled here, most of which have changed hands at least once in that time.

What has changed is the group’s name rather than its owners: Roll International became The Wonderful Company in 2015, a rebrand around the “Wonderful” product names rather than any transfer of control.

Fiji Water is frequently confused with other premium bottled waters under quite different ownership — Evian belongs to Danone, San Pellegrino and Perrier to Nestlé, Voss to a separate Norwegian-founded business. None of them shares an owner with Fiji.

The limits are what the UK register cannot reach: The Wonderful Company is a private American company with no UK filing obligation, so its structure and the Resnicks’ holdings within it are established by the company’s own statements rather than by any filing here. The Fijian bottling operation is likewise outside Companies House. Companies House does not verify most filed information.
