Who Owns TNT Sports?

TNT Sports is a joint venture between BT and Warner Bros. Discovery — and despite widely reported talks in 2025 about BT selling out, Companies House still shows BT as a person with significant control. The register also shows something the coverage does not: BT holds 75% or more of the shares but only a 25–50% share of the voting rights. Money and control were split deliberately. Ownership verified 6 September 2026.

Who owns Tnt Sports?

The broadcaster is TNT SPORTS BROADCASTING LIMITED (13545383), incorporated 3 August 2021 and registered at Chiswick Park in London — Warner Bros. Discovery’s UK address rather than BT’s.

It has two people with significant control:

  • British Telecommunications Plc (01800000) — ownership of shares 75% or more, and ownership of voting rights more than 25% but not more than 50%, notified 3 August 2021
  • DNI Foreign Holdings Limited (08640317) — ownership of voting rights more than 25% but not more than 50%, notified 25 November 2024

A single entry recording 75%+ of shares alongside only a minority of votes is unusual and highly informative. It is how a 50:50 partnership is built when one side put in most of the assets: BT retained the economics of what it contributed, while the two partners share control equally.

Parent company and ownership structure

DNI Foreign Holdings is the Warner Bros. Discovery side — it replaced Discovery Corporate Services Limited (8597513), which held 25–50% of the shares from 31 August 2022 and ceased on 25 November 2024, the same day DNI was notified. That is an internal reorganisation on the Discovery side, not a change of partner.

The joint venture was formed in 2022 by combining BT Sport with Warner Bros. Discovery’s Eurosport UK operations, with both companies equally represented on the board.

Warner Bros. Discovery holds an option to buy out BT’s stake before the end of 2026. Reports in May 2025 said a deal was close and would end BT’s involvement in sport after more than a decade. As of this check, no such change appears on the register — BT’s entry is still active and still records 75%+ of the shares.

Major shareholders or controlling interests

There are only the two. Above them, both parents are listed companies with no controlling shareholder of their own: BT Group plc, whose largest holders are Bharti at around 24.5% and Deutsche Telekom at around 12%, and Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc., listed in the United States.

No individual controls TNT Sports at any level of the structure.

Other media assets in the group

TNT Sports holds UK rights to Premier League and Champions League football, the Premiership and European rugby, MotoGP, cycling and boxing, and operates the Discovery+ streaming platform in the UK alongside Eurosport.

Warner Bros. Discovery separately owns HBO, CNN, Warner Bros. and Discovery’s channels; BT Group owns EE, BT, Plusnet and Openreach, as this site’s EE profile sets out. TNT Sports is the only asset the two hold together.

Ownership history

The company’s own previous name records where it came from. TNT Sports Broadcasting Limited was BT NINETY-FIVE LIMITED from incorporation on 3 August 2021 until 13 July 2023.

Numbered names like that are shelf or reserve companies — incorporated in batches by a large group so one is ready when needed. BT registered this one two years before the brand existed, and renamed it when TNT Sports launched in July 2023.

The lineage runs BT Vision, to BT Sport from 2013, to the 2022 joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery, to the TNT Sports rebrand in 2023. What has not yet happened, on the evidence of the register, is BT’s exit.

One filing detail worth noting: BT’s PSC entry still names British Telecommunications Plc, although that company re-registered as British Telecommunications Limited on 24 June 2026. A PSC entry records the name as filed and is not automatically updated when the named company changes its own name — so a stale name on a register is not evidence of a stale relationship.

Sources and verification

Both PSC entries with their exact natures of control, the ceased Discovery entry, the incorporation date and the BT Ninety-Five previous name are from the Companies House register.

The 2025 reports of a sale, the buyout option and its end-2026 deadline come from press reporting and the parents’ own disclosures, not from any filing. Because a completed sale would change this page’s answer entirely, anyone relying on it should re-check company 13545383 — the register is where the change will appear. Companies House does not verify most filed information.
