Who Owns Roblox?

who owns the brand

Roblox is controlled by its co-founder, David Baszucki. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, but Baszucki holds every one of its Class B shares — which carry 20 votes each — giving him a reported 58.8% of the total voting power as at February 2026. Public shareholders own most of the economics and cannot outvote him. Ownership verified 6 September 2026.

Who owns the Roblox brand?

Roblox Corporation is a public company registered in Delaware and listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2021. It has no parent.

The platform, the brand and the technology belong to that company. There is no meaningful UK ownership record: Roblox’s British subsidiaries record the group companies above them and establish nothing about control.

Parent company and ultimate owner

Roblox owns itself, and Baszucki controls it. The mechanism is a two-class share structure:

  • Class A — one vote per share, held by the public
  • Class Btwenty votes per share, held by Baszucki and his affiliates

Twenty-to-one is a steep ratio even by the standards of founder-controlled technology companies — Alphabet’s Class B carries ten votes, as this site’s Alphabet page sets out. Baszucki is reported to hold 100% of the Class B stock.

Institutional investors hold substantial economic stakes — BlackRock at around 5% of shares outstanding on 2026 figures — with voting power that does not correspond to it.

Brand owner vs operating company

The distinction that matters most on Roblox is not corporate but creative. Roblox does not own the games on Roblox. The platform hosts experiences built by independent developers, who retain rights in what they make and earn a share of the revenue through the platform’s currency.

So “who owns Roblox” and “who owns a game on Roblox” have entirely different answers — the same distinction drawn on this site’s eBay page, where the marketplace does not own the goods sold through it.

Roblox takes a substantial cut of in-experience spending, and the economics of that split have been persistently contested by developers. That is a commercial argument about revenue share, not an ownership one.

When the ownership changed

Roblox was founded in 2004 by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, and launched in 2006. Cassel died in 2013.

It stayed private for seventeen years, raising venture funding from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Altos Ventures and Tencent, which holds an interest through a Chinese joint venture arrangement rather than control of the parent.

In March 2021 it went public through a direct listing rather than a conventional flotation — the same route Spotify took, and one that admits existing shares to trading without raising new capital. The dual-class structure was in place beforehand and survived it intact.

There has been no change of control since, and none is possible without Baszucki’s agreement.

Related brands in the same group

Roblox Corporation operates one platform. It has no significant portfolio of separate brands and has made only modest acquisitions, largely of technology and moderation businesses.

It is not owned by Microsoft, Tencent, Epic Games or any games publisher. Roblox and Minecraft are frequently confused and have nothing in common in ownership terms: Minecraft belongs to Mojang, which Microsoft bought in 2014, as this site’s Microsoft page records. Epic’s Fortnite is separately owned again, with Tencent holding a large minority of Epic.

Sources and verification

This page has no UK register evidence. Roblox is an American company and its ownership is established through filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission — the annual proxy statement and Form 10-K set out the share classes and the voting power attached to each, and Baszucki’s holdings are disclosed there and in insider filings.

The 58.8% figure is as at a February 2026 disclosure date and moves as shares are sold or converted; an earlier disclosure put it above 60%. Percentages of this kind should always be read with the date attached. Companies House does not verify most filed information, and holds nothing relevant here.
