Who Owns Vinted?
Vinted is owned by Vinted UAB, a private Lithuanian company, with no single controlling shareholder. Its founders retain stakes alongside investors including Accel, Insight Partners, Lightspeed, EQT and Baillie Gifford. It has never floated. The UK register is a dead end: Vinted Limited files a statement that it has no registrable person, so Companies House names nobody. Ownership verified 6 September 2026.
Who owns the Vinted brand?
Vinted is Lithuanian. It was founded in Vilnius in 2008 by Milda Mitkutė and Justas Janauskas, and the group parent is Vinted UAB — a private company registered in Lithuania and outside Companies House entirely.
The UK arm is VINTED (UK) LIMITED (14685110), incorporated 23 February 2023, whose person with significant control is VINTED LIMITED (07874344), incorporated 7 December 2011 and registered in London.
The older company has a previous name worth noting: it was FRIENDLY FASHION LIMITED until 18 February 2014, when it took the Vinted name.
Parent company and ultimate owner
Follow the UK chain and it stops without naming an owner:
- Vinted (UK) Limited (14685110) — controlled by Vinted Limited since 23 February 2023
- Vinted Limited (07874344) — files a statement that the company knows or has reasonable cause to believe that there is no registrable person or registrable relevant legal entity in relation to the company, notified 26 January 2018 and still active
Before that statement, the company filed a rarer one: from 7 December 2016 it declared that it knew there was a registrable person but had not identified them. That statement was withdrawn on 26 January 2018 and replaced with the current one.
Those two statements are different admissions. The first says an owner exists and we have not worked out who; the second says nobody qualifies. Both leave the register empty, and together they are a good illustration of how little the UK register can compel from a company whose parent is abroad.
So the answer has to come from elsewhere: Vinted UAB, held by its founders, its employees and its investors, with no majority holder.
Brand owner vs operating company
Vinted UAB owns the marketplace, the brand and the technology. The UK companies employ staff and run local operations. Vinted Go, the group’s logistics business, and Vinted Pay have their own UK registrations.
Name matching fails badly here, and in an unusual direction. Companies House holds a crowd of companies named after the platform by people who sell on it — Vinted Threads Ltd, Vinted Resells Ltd, Vinted Value Apparel Ltd, Minted Vinted Ltd, Vintedropshipping Ltd — none of them connected to the company. A brand that becomes a verb ends up scattered across the register.
When the ownership changed
Vinted has never been acquired. Its ownership has changed by dilution and by shares moving between investors, not by a takeover:
- Founded 2008 in Vilnius; venture funding from Accel, Insight Partners, Lightspeed and Sprints Capital followed.
- 2019 — became Lithuania’s first technology company valued above $1bn.
- October 2024 — a secondary share sale led by TPG valued it at a reported €5bn, with Baillie Gifford and others joining.
- 2026 — a further secondary sale of about €880m, led by EQT Growth, at a reported €8bn valuation, bringing in Schroders Capital and Teachers’ Venture Growth among others.
Both of those were secondary transactions: existing shareholders and employees sold shares to new investors, and Vinted itself received none of the money. That is a meaningful distinction. A funding round raises capital and dilutes; a secondary sale simply moves ownership between holders, and is often how early investors and staff take money off the table at a company in no hurry to float.
Related brands in the same group
The group operates Vinted, Vinted Go and Vinted Pay. There is no wider portfolio — it is a single-business company, unlike most of the owners profiled on this site.
Vinted is frequently grouped with Depop and eBay as though they were related. They are not: Depop is owned by Etsy, which bought it in 2021, and eBay is a separate listed American company. The three compete and share no ownership.
Sources and verification
The UK company numbers, the 2023 PSC entry, both statements on Vinted Limited with their dates, and the Friendly Fashion previous name are from the Companies House register.
Everything about who actually owns Vinted is not. The Lithuanian parent files in Lithuania, not here, and the investor list and valuations come from the company’s own announcements and from reporting of the two secondary sales. Valuations set in private transactions are not market prices and should be treated as reported figures. Companies House does not verify most filed information.
