Who Owns Evri?

Evri is owned by funds managed by Apollo Global Management, the US private equity firm, which bought it from Advent International in a deal reported at £2.7bn completing in 2024. Companies House shows the change: the chain above Evri Limited was re-pointed to a new holding company on 23 December 2024. The company was called Hermes until 2022. Who owns Evri today?

The operating company is EVRI LIMITED (03900782), incorporated 22 December 1999 and registered at Morley, Leeds. It is not independently owned — its registered controller is a holding company, and above that sit several more.

Name matching is unreliable here: Companies House returns over a hundred companies containing “Evri”, including unrelated businesses in food, construction and investments, plus several dissolved companies that also used the name. The parcel company is 03900782.

Four companies before the register even approaches an owner, and it continues above Edge Bidco. This is what private equity ownership looks like on the register: layers of newly incorporated “Bidco”, “Midco” and “Newco” entities created to hold, finance and ring-fence an acquisition. The names are conventions of the transaction, not businesses.

The 23 December 2024 entry marks the handover. Concert Midco Limited (12735567) ceased as controller of Concert Bidco on 18 December 2024, five days earlier — the old structure being unwound as the new one takes over.

Major shareholders or controlling persons

No individual controls Evri. It is held by funds managed by Apollo Global Management, and fund ownership is diffuse by nature: the funds’ own investors are pension schemes, insurers and institutions, with Apollo as manager rather than beneficial owner.

That distinction matters here in the same way it does for index managers elsewhere on this site. Apollo directs the business; the economic interest sits with the funds’ investors.

The Companies House chain above is checkable by company number, and it establishes the structure and the December 2024 date precisely.

What it does not establish is Apollo. The register names UK holding companies and stops before reaching the funds — so the identification of Apollo as owner rests on the transaction announcements from Apollo and Advent themselves, not on a UK filing. That is a reported ownership supported by both parties’ own statements rather than a register-verified one.

One further detail worth noting: Concert Bidco filed a “no registrable person” statement on 10 June 2020 and withdrew it on 17 July 2020. Withdrawn statements remain visible on the register and are part of the filing history, not the current position.

Ownership history and changes

The business was Hermes, the UK arm of the German Otto Group’s parcel operation. Advent International acquired the UK business in 2020 for a reported €1bn and rebranded it Evri in 2022 — a rename following a period of sustained criticism of the service.

Apollo agreed to buy it from Advent in July 2024 at a reported £2.7bn, completing later that year. Evri has since been reported combining with DHL’s UK ecommerce operation, which would change the structure again.

So the company has been sold twice in four years and renamed once — a pattern typical of private equity ownership, where the holding structure is rebuilt with each transaction.

Related companies and brands

Apollo’s portfolio is large and spans many sectors; those companies share a manager, not a business. Evri’s former parent Advent has no continuing interest, and the Otto Group, the original owner, exited the UK business in 2020.

Evri should not be confused with Hermes the luxury goods house, which is an entirely separate French company that has never had any connection to the parcel business despite the shared former name.
