Who Owns Salford City?

Salford City’s owners are not named on any public register. The club is controlled by Project 92 Limited — and since 8 May 2025, Project 92 has filed a statement that it has no registrable person. The consortium reported to have taken over that month, led by David Beckham and Gary Neville, appears nowhere in the filings. Nine months earlier the register named Neville outright. Ownership verified 6 September 2026.

Who owns Salford City?

The club is SALFORD CITY FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED (08912116), incorporated 26 February 2014 — the year the Class of ’92 takeover began.

Its person with significant control is Project 92 Limited (09112699), holding 75% or more of the shares and voting rights since 6 April 2016. The name is the giveaway: Project 92 was the vehicle built for the Manchester United players’ purchase of the club.

Follow it one step further and the trail stops. Project 92’s own register carries no controller at all.

Current owners and shareholding structure

Project 92 Limited’s PSC history is unusually legible, and it ends in silence:

• Mr Eng Hock Lim — Singaporean, resident in Singapore, more than 25% but not more than 50% of shares and voting rights, from 6 April 2016 until 31 July 2024. This is Peter Lim, the Singaporean businessman who bought half the club in 2014.
• Gary Alexander Neville — British, 75% or more of shares and voting rights and the right to appoint or remove directors, notified 31 July 2024, ceased 8 May 2025.
• Statement, active since 8 May 2025 — the company knows or has reasonable cause to believe that there is no registrable person or registrable relevant legal entity in relation to the company.

So the register records Neville as sole controlling owner for a little over nine months, between buying out Lim and the arrival of the new consortium — and then records nobody.

A “no registrable person” statement after a change of ownership usually means control has been dispersed among enough holders that none reaches 25%, or is held through a structure that does not itself qualify. Either way, the effect is that the current owners of Salford City are not identifiable from Companies House.

Key controlling people and entities

What is reported, rather than filed: the club was bought in 2014 by five members of Manchester United’s Class of ’92 — Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt — each with 10%, alongside Peter Lim with 50%.

Lim’s exit completed on 31 July 2024, the date his PSC entry ceased and Neville’s began. In May 2025 a new consortium was reported, led by David Beckham and Gary Neville with other investors including Lord Mervyn Davies — reuniting the Class of ’92 line-up with the addition of its most famous member.

The 8 May 2025 statement is dated within days of that reported deal, which is consistent with a widened ownership group in which no individual crosses the 25% threshold.

Ownership history

Salford City was founded in 1940 as Salford Central. The register holds its predecessor company, The Salford Football Club Company (1914) Limited (00137072), which was dissolved on 18 January 2022 — a separate legal entity, long superseded by the 2014 company.

Under the Class of ’92 and Lim’s money the club rose from the eighth tier to the English Football League in five seasons, with four promotions, reaching League Two in 2019. The investment and the ownership are the reason the club is known at all outside Greater Manchester.

Related clubs or investment group

Peter Lim’s football interests included Valencia in Spain, which he controlled separately; his Salford stake and his Valencia holding were unconnected in law, and he has now exited Salford.

Several of the club’s reported owners hold interests in other sporting ventures — David Beckham is a co-owner of Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. Multi-club interests are constrained in European competition, though at Salford’s level those restrictions have no practical effect.
