Who owns Sheffield Wednesday?

The club trades through SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED (02509978), incorporated 8 June 1990. Its registered office has moved from Hillsborough to an address in Northampton — the administrators’ office, which is itself a signal of the company’s position.

Its person with significant control remains Mr Dejphon Chansiri, Thai, recorded with ownership of 75% or more of the shares since 1 June 2016. That entry has not ceased.

There is also an older company, SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY PLC (00062478), incorporated 8 June 1899 and previously named Sheffield Wednesday Football Club — still active, and a reminder that a club’s history and its current trading company are often different entities.

Current owners and shareholding structure

This is the important distinction, and it is one the register does not make for you.

Administration does not transfer ownership. Chansiri remains the shareholder and the PSC register still names him. What changes is control: administrators are appointed to run the company in the creditors’ interests, and the directors’ and shareholder’s powers are suspended while that lasts.
