Who owns Wrexham?

The club operates as Wrexham AFC Limited, company number 07698872, incorporated on 8 July 2011 and registered at the Racecourse Ground, Mold Road. Its two registered controllers are the actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, both notified on 9 February 2021 and both with a registered country of the United States.

A separate Wrexham AFC Foundation (06931786) handles community work. It is a distinct company, previously named Wrexham AFC Community Trust, and it does not own the club.

Current owners and shareholding structure

The PSC entries record both men in the same bands: 75% or more of shares, 75% or more of voting rights, plus the right to appoint and remove directors.

That looks odd at first, because two people cannot each hold 75% of the same company. It is how Companies House records joint control: where parties hold shares jointly or act together under an agreement, each is registered as holding the whole joint interest rather than a divided share. So the correct reading is not “Reynolds owns 75% and Mac owns 75%” — it is that the two of them together hold at least 75%, and the register does not split it between them.

Rob Mac is the same person previously credited as Rob McElhenney; he changed his legal name, and the register reflects the current one.

The genuinely notable entry is the one that ceased. Wrexham Football Supporters’ Society Limited (registration 29366r, Wales) was the club’s registered controller with significant influence or control until 9 February 2021 — the same day the two new PSCs were notified.

That single date records the club passing from supporter ownership, held through a members’ society after fans rescued it in 2011, to two private individuals. It is the substance of the ownership story and it is visible in one line of the register.

Related clubs or investment group

Wrexham is not part of a multi-club group. There is no City Football Group equivalent above it, and the owners’ interests in other sports businesses are held separately rather than through the club.

This matters for the competition rules that restrict clubs under common control from meeting in the same tournament: those rules bite on group ownership structures, and Wrexham does not sit inside one.
