Who Owns WWE?

WWE is owned by TKO Group Holdings, the company formed when WWE merged with the UFC in 2023. Companies House records the change precisely: World Wrestling Entertainment Inc ceased as controller of the British company on 12 September 2023 and TKO Group Holdings Inc. was notified the same day. Vince McMahon, whose family controlled WWE for three generations, has no role and no controlling stake. Ownership verified 6 September 2026.

Who owns Wwe?

The British company is WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT (INTERNATIONAL) LIMITED (04298125), incorporated 3 October 2001 and registered in Chiswick, London.

Its active controller is TKO Group Holdings Inc. of the United States, notified 12 September 2023 under the significant influence or control condition — with no shareholding band recorded.

Searching the register for “WWE” is worse than useless. Of 126 matches, not one is the wrestling company: the results are WWE Healthcare, WWE Holdings, WWE Consulting, W.W.E. Solutions, W.W.E. Properties and — genuinely — WWE Catering Sinks Limited. A dissolved company now called Kwench Limited was once named simply “WWE”. The wrestling company is registered under its full name, not its initials.

Ownership and control structure

TKO Group Holdings is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and holds both WWE and the UFC — professional wrestling and mixed martial arts under one owner, which is the single fact most people get wrong about both.

TKO’s majority shareholder is TKO Operating Company, controlled by Endeavor, the entertainment and talent group built by Ari Emanuel. Endeavor was itself taken private by Silver Lake, the technology investment firm, in a transaction completing in 2025.

So the chain runs: a Chiswick company → a New York-listed holding company → an operating company → Endeavor → a private equity firm. The UK register captures only the first step of that.

The condition recorded matters. TKO holds through significant influence or control rather than a share band, the same as the current controllers of Leeds United and Manchester United elsewhere on this site — a pattern typical of British subsidiaries whose shares sit inside foreign structures.

Key investors or controlling entities

No individual controls WWE. Ari Emanuel has been the decisive figure through Endeavor, and Silver Lake holds the ultimate financial control since taking Endeavor private.

Vince McMahon is the name still attached to WWE in most people’s minds, and the position is now unambiguous: he resigned from TKO’s board in January 2024 and has sold down his holding. The company his father and grandfather built, and which he took public in 1999 while retaining voting control through a dual-class structure, is no longer his.

That is a genuine transfer of control, not a cessation artefact of the kind this site warns about elsewhere. The McMahon family’s supervoting shares were the mechanism of their control for a quarter of a century, and the 2023 merger converted that position into a minority interest in a much larger company.

How the organisation is structured

WWE is an operating business within TKO, not a separate public company. It produces Raw, SmackDown and NXT, the pay-per-view events, and it owns its video library — one of the most valuable archives in sport.

The British company handles WWE’s international operations from London: live events at UK arenas, licensing and the European business. It does not own the brand or the intellectual property, which sit in the United States.

WWE’s wrestlers are contracted as independent contractors rather than employees, a structure that has attracted persistent legal challenge in the United States. It is a feature of how the business is organised rather than of who owns it, but it is the aspect of WWE’s structure with the most direct consequences for the people on screen.

Ownership history

The business was founded in 1953 by Jess McMahon and Toots Mondt, passed to Vince McMahon Sr, and then in 1982 to Vince McMahon Jr, who bought it from his father and expanded it nationally.

  • 1999 — flotation, with a dual-class structure preserving McMahon family control.
  • 2002 — renamed from World Wrestling Federation to World Wrestling Entertainment, after losing a legal dispute with the World Wide Fund for Nature over the WWF initials. The UK register preserves this: 04298125’s previous name is World Wrestling Federation (International) Limited.
  • 12 September 2023 — the TKO merger completes; WWE Inc ceases as the British company’s controller and TKO is notified the same day.
  • January 2024 — Vince McMahon resigns from the TKO board.

Three generations of one family held this business for seventy years. The register records the end of it as a single-day substitution of one American corporation for another.

Sources and verification

The company number, the 2001 incorporation, the World Wrestling Federation previous name, the WWE Inc cessation and the TKO entry with its 12 September 2023 date are all Companies House records for 04298125, checkable by number.

Two limits. The register records the nature of control and TKO’s entry carries no shareholding band, so nothing about percentages is established by any UK filing. And everything above TKO — the Endeavor structure, the Silver Lake buyout and the McMahon family’s remaining interest — sits in US securities filings rather than on Companies House, which does not verify most filed information.
